The third animation shows the simulation of the water level of the complete computer model. Simulation of water level in and around Saltstraumen (Norway) on from Dam Engineering on Vimeo. You can see this clearly in the water level plots of Bodo (on the outside) and Tuv (on the inside). After 6 hours the ebb starts again and the inner basin empties again. The inner basin (Skjerstadfjorden) does not get filled completely in 6 hours time. This creates a large current (up to nearly 8 m/s in the animation) in Saltstrauen. Because Salstraumen and Sundstraumen are so narrow there is a large water level difference between the inner and outer fjord. The tidal wave that comes from the sea wants to fill Skjerstadfjorden through Saltstraumen and Sundstraumen. In the next animation we show the water level on using the FINEL model. Simulation of tidal current in Saltstraumen (Norway) on from Dam Engineering on Vimeo. Click cc (Choose captions) in the bar below to get more information during the video. A maximum current of around 8 m/s is found in the main channel. In the animation below we show a large springtide at with an interval of 1 minute. The study shows that the model is capable of simulating in high resolution the water motion and In this study we use the finite element model FINEL2d to simulate the currents in Saltstraumen. The velocities can get up to 10 m/s according to the tourist information and is therefore named the highest tidal current in the world. Large quantities of water flow in and out each tide through the 150m wide Saltstraumen. Saltstraumen, located in the northern part of Norway, connects the large Skjerstadfjorden with the sea. You need to look for the time in the green column and the “out” row.Tidal current predictions, Saltstraumen, Norway Each day of the year has four listed times (except occasionally only three). The table itself is quite hard to interpret. The VisitBodø website has a link to a timetable. It is also surprisingly difficult to find out when you be at the Saltstraumen to view the spectacle at its greatest. The west footpath on the bridge provides excellent viewpoints. The Saltstraumen bus stop is a hundred yards or so from the north end of the highway bridge. The driver will sell you a ticket and make change. Ask the bus driver to let you off at Saltsraumen. Do not be deceived by being told that the Saltstraumen is about 6 miles southeast of Bodø, which it is as the crow flies. The trip is 19 miles and takes about three quarters of an hour. When you are at the correct stop the Meglerhuset realtors is right behind you and directly across the street is Glasshus Passasjen.
